Do you continually find yourself being drawn into the day to day running of your business?
In our view, until an organisation gets to a size where specific posts, such as an HR Manager, occupy someone full time, then everyone needs to muck in and bring multiple skills to the table.
Attitudes towards mucking in vary too.
When we have help our clients recruit accountants, we determine whether the candidate is a hands-on, self starter or someone who needs the life support systems found in much bigger businesses.
Also, in most growing businesses, cash is a precious commodity to be used sparingly. So, looking for extra skills each member of the team has locked away, is advantageous.
As a business leader in that environment, who has multiple skills there are endless opportunities to demonstrate your full and extensive skill set. Perhaps even to show people who is the boss!
However, at the point where keeping the IT system running while fronting up the latest round of recruitment is keeping you from the first priority of being a business leader, we would respectfully put it to you that, you are headed in the wrong direction.
This may not kill the business, but it will delay growth indefinitely in the worst cases.
